Pioneer AVH-X2700BS - USB issue

Just installed a Pioneer AVH-X2700BS and the USB doesn't load up every time like it's supposed to when vehicle is turned on. It has worked 3 out of about 30 times. It says, "Format Read" and the only way I can get it to play from USB is to swap to radio/bluetooth/dvd or aux and back to USB. When I do that it plays instantly, any ideas?
