Pioneer AVH-P3100

I've just installed this model in my truck. It's nice but I'll tell you quickly some little quirks. Depending on your reach, the button interface is a little hard to nail accurately. In my truck it's a decent reach, a little bit of a bump and I'm turning it up instead of down. I got the universal steering wheel remote and after performing a little surgery, it works well enough that I wouldn't live without it. During installation I found the supplied trim plate was actually too big, a gap is left between the edge of the unit and the inside edge of of the trim plate, hello inside of dash! A real pisser during install I hadn't counted on. Find a piece of plastic measure and cut a perfect fit, perfectly enough to become a part of my car, sand it, paint it, man! You can probably buy a correct one with fore-knowledge of it's need. The only other thing is it has 2 RCA outs; "main" and "sub". It's cool for various configurations but it requires you run the unit's crossover not, your amp. The x-over settings are fixed 50 65 80 100 ... w/ a 12db main and 18db sub roll-off. I wanted more control and a different slope on my sub. After a little searching and frustration I found out how to bypass both crossovers. Control for the main and sub cross' are in separate menus and states of operation - unit has to be off to access control of one of them. The bad thing is you lose all but fader control. You lose that nice 26 setting sub gain control which is a nicer way to balance mains and subs.

Othewise, it is a nice model, no time alignment! It does look good much better than fold out models. It kind of has a factory look to it installed. I like it.

I still like it but, one more nag. It's probably my own ignorance but I expected to condense my music to dvd's. There is no format; dvd, flash, hard drive(!) etc. beyond cd's that plays lossless recordings. This may be standard among hu's so, I may have expected too much. I guess it's a matter of; none of the extra capabilities, beyond a simple cd player/radio aren't any good to me. It is an attractive 2din with good sound for a decent price.
