yeah, paintjobs. Anyone ever get a paintjob from Maaco or Earl Scheib? Which one is better as far as quality/reliability performance? My car got a few scratches and knicks here and there, so i wanna paintjob. I looked at a few reveiws about the 270$ paintjob from maacos, and let's just say none of them were good experience. I wasn't planning on getting the bottom barrel paint job, but i also didn't wanna spend over a $1000 on a paintjob that will most likely get scratched, when people open their doors and hit yours, in tiny parking spots. For Earl Scheib, i was looking at the pro package 3 and 4, and it doesn't seem like theres any difference besides the warranty. What do you guys think? Any experience with either shops?

oh, i don't wanna hear " better off doing it yourself with a compressor and a few gallons of paint because I'm not better off!

I know a girl who got a macco paint job within 3 months the florida sun had it baking and bubbling none the less it was terrible. from what I understand its either get a good paintjob that is well preped and all the good stuff or dont do it. Just cause youll be kicking yourself in the *** later.

Hey man,I just got one of my cars painted by maaco. Honestly, i dont think I could have done better for the price. It was $448.00. It was $338.00 but I got the intergrated clear coat which helps the shine like crazy.i know some people that just got the basic spray and they needed it painted in about another years time. the dont do such a great job sanding as wekk as a lil overspray but hey,Im not in any car shows.they ,at the time, had a coupon on their website for $100.00 off when you get the intergrated clear coat...thats how I paid $338.00. I say go for it.

i worked for maaco, painting.

it really depends on the one you go to. as you know, there are many. if you go to one in a big city, or that has alot of business, all they are interested in is turning numbers. getting the cars in, getting the cars out. if you work at a smaller/less traffic one, they start to focus on quality and take longewr to do the job (doing it right), because if they dont have any cars in the shop, it makes them look like a bad shop.

its not bad for the price, but dont get me wrong, is no where near good.

as far as one of the posters said about bubbling in the paint, thats from weak primers/sealers. if the primer doesnt adhere to whatever they spray it on, itll fall off eventually, taking everything over it with it. if they spray the sealer or paint over the prevous coats that werent cured yet, moisture is now sealed in the paint, moisture + heat = no good for paint. itll lift, fall off, bubble, crack..and theres no real set amount of time youll see it. could be a week, could be a year.

throw some pics of your ride, closely at the paint, so i can compare

My first car was done by maaco, it wasn't that bad for the price. I would deffinitly go with Earl Scheib if you want a decent job for a good price. I saw a lot of stuff done by them in SA, TX and they looked pretty **** good. Expecially with the warrenty they give you.

I got a macco paint job on my old truck. The only reason I painted it was because the bed and cab were different colors. Anyways the tailgate was not attached so I just put it in the back to have them spray that too. I'm not sure how long it took, but it started flaking off in a lot of places and when I decided to put the tailgate on I noticed they didn't even paint both sides of it. They also didn't finish the bed completely because I could see orange streaks underneath the shitty green paint job they did. So I guess you get what you pay for, but I could have did a better job myself. I give macco a thumbs down.

Earl Schiebs offers a decent warranty if IIRC, but my advice to you is go to one of your local body shops just to get a price check. Never know they may be running a special or something. One of my dads friends owns his body shop here in North Lima Ohio and does paint jobs for 1000 or less, unless you need body work, then it is more and does excellent work. Taking my eclispe there soon to help sell it. Seen his work and they turn out awesome for 1000 bucks.

If you are dead set on Macco or Earl, I would go Earl Schiebs.

Underlying theme is that it's ALL about the prep work and not the actual spraying on of the paint.

If possible YOU should prep the car as that's where all the labor/$$$ is at. If your car doesn't really need any bodywork, then it's just a scuff & shoot and you can do the prep yourself.

well said.

prep the car yourself and give the guy a nice tip and make sure to tell him to go heavy with the clear so you can wetsand/polish if you want a quality finish

what kind of paint does maaco use? To do a car, I could spend about $400 for ppg paint & clear, then again i dont buy in bulk
