Painless way to tell if natural gas is turned on?

Anyone know the easiest way to figure out if my natural gas is turned on? I just moved last week, and finally got a shower curtain, and whatnot, but low and behold, no hot water.....

....forgot, a gas water heater, and i haven't switched the bill over yet

i don't know if the gas is shut off completely, or if the water heater's just turned all the way down/off

anyone know an easy way to tell if the gas is turned on at all? Or how to light a water heater?

Stove's compeltely shut off at the pipe, so that's not gonna help......

I've never had gas to deal with, i really don't wanna blow up..... But dammit i'm sticky and sweaty, and i'd love to take a shower

eh, i think i'm gonna just shower as well as i can with what i've got......

i'll just wait for the gas company to come light my pilots for me, then i wont even have to think about it

Or, you could take two minutes and light them yourself, and not have to use cold water.

Is your pilot light on?

If there's a leak, you'd know it. Natural gas has the sulphur smell added to it for just this situation - so you can tell if it's leaking/on.

If there's enough to be dangerous, then you'd know it... unless you have NO sense of smell.
