P0620 error code after HO Alt install

Anybody familiar with this code at all:

P0620 Generator Control Circuit

Installed my mean green alt on my 07 F150 today, did the big 3, and now I have a batt error light on the dash and its throwin a P0620 code. Cleared the code with my programmer and it comes back in about 30 seconds.

It is charging, cold it charges 14.4, warm about 13.9.

Anybody seen that code before? Going to call mean green in the morning but was hopin somebody here has seen it before.

make sure you plugged the connector back in and that its fully seated.
That was my first guess, maybe it wasn't seated fully. Unfortunately I have to take off my intake to get to the alt plug, I pushed down on it from what I could reach and it didn't budge. Guess I will take the intake back off tomorrow and check it again since its getting dark.

The dood at mean green said ford changed their regulators in their alts alot in he last few years and he said he thought he knew the right one. I'm hopin its just a loose connector when I get to it tomorrow and not something like the wrong regulator...not sure why that would even throw that code.

It may be possible the regulator is reading a voltage to the computer (if any at all) that is triggering it to error, even though it really isn't receiving that voltage.

you gotta take the intake off? its 3 x10 mm on top for the bracket, and 2 10mm's on bottom holding it to the front of the block.... should take longer to undo the belt...lol....

My tuner reads voltage from the computer, it thinks its got 13.9v

Been workin on the truck all day long, alt, big 3, dvd player, 1/0 ran through the truck, new rca's, sirius hooked up etc, etc....haha. Laziness is stopping me from undoing two hose clamps and the top alt bracket.

Its the 4.6 motor btw

lol yea i get that lazy part all the time...lol.... good thing ya got that 4.6 the newer 3 valve 5.4s got some nasty spark plug issues.... old ones dont stay in these dont come out....lol....

I've heard alot of complaining about that issue over the f150 board. I may not have any power but atleast I don't have plug issues //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif

Ohio Gen wanted the numbers off the back cap on my stock alt to determine the correct regulator, mean green didn't ask for it. I got the alt about 6 months ago and just now installed it, hopefully they remember what regulator they put in it back then, and hopefully the numbers on the cap mean something to them so they can verify it.

I've heard that some of the newer vehicles have issues when a HO alt is installed. Something about the computer reading the increased voltage and the computer kicking out a trouble code because of the increase. I remember reading a post about it on TermPro.
I'll have to search over there. When the alt is warm its only charging about 13.8 or so and it still kicks the code out. If it is the computer thinking its an overcharge issue I don't mind living with a battery light, I just want to make sure all is well and I'm not causing any problems.

Sucks the code is throwing after all the work today, but I guess on the upside I have my sirius back //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/peace.gif.2db28b618ed8d1964ebbe2f5021d2c39.gif hair nation

Weird things are happening with these newer cars. My dads friend has a newer Volkswagen Passat like an 2003 model and in order for it to pass inspection the factory radio has to be installed in the car. Will not pass inspection with an aftermarket radio

New cars are nice to drive but **** nutz to work on! I do thank Ford for putting a grommet in the firewall right by the battery that'll hold 1/0 though. That was nice of them.
