Hey everyone, I used to be really into this stuff, then I got my setup and hadn't really thought about it since. 3 years have passed now and I haven't kept up with the latest products.
My setup. I have a small sedan, 1990 bmw 3 series. I have CDT comps in both the front and back. They sound great but lack a little in midbass. They are powered from a 4 X 75 @ 4 ohm amp. I made up for lack of midbass with a relatively good (I thought so, but most people make fun when they hear the name) Audiobahn Alum 12X sub. This was supposed to be their "SQ" sub. I got a great deal on it ($65). I hooked it up to my Class D Mono Amp (A1800WDQ - 600 @ 4 ohms, 1200@2 ohms, and 1800@1 ohm) with a 3 ohm load. It said it could handle 1100 RMS, so I thought this would be a good match. Put it in a sealed box (sorry, i dont know the dimensions) and it sounded great. It pounded hard and never distorted.
It recently blew, after 3 years. one of the coils came un"frazzled" inside. I tried to solder it, and it worked for a few days, then came undone again. Time to get a new sub setup.
I am keeping the same amp, just trying to find a decent setup to drop in there now. I have a few options and I was wondering what you all thought about it.
Option 1: Two 10" MTX Thunder 7500 subs in custom fiberglass box, not sure what the load is yet - $175
Option 2: One JBL GTIW12, dual 6 ohm, 700w RMS - $225-250
Option 3: Two JL Audio 12w3v3 in a ported box - $250-300
Option 4: Two JL Audio 10W1v2 in a sealed box - $175
All options come with the box, with the exception of the JBL, I would just drop that in my sealed box. My sealed box is not really sealed anymore, as there are wholes drilled in it, but I will get a better box when I buy a new vehicle.
I welcome all of your opinions. Trying to stay at around $250 or below, and these are the options I have found thus far locally. Thanks in advance.
