Older Receivers compared to new

I'm starting to put together a 2.1 system for mainly music, some movies. I have a receiver to use, an early 90's JVC RX-803VBK. Specs are 100wrms x2 @ 8ohms, 20hz-20khz, @ .7%THD. (if it matters, 50wrms x2-rear, 100wrms-center). There is a sub pre-out. Would this receiver do justice to a new $250 pair of speakers with a new $250 sub? Has much changed over the years as far as using a CD Player hooked up to a receiver to play music (as far as sound proccessing and better power output?) Thanks

you shut your mouth, when you find that sweet spot in you sound feind and want to crank up the tunes you dont want to have to haul you a$$ over to the rev\ciever to do it:uhoh:
The idea is to have your speakers set up well enough so you know where that spot is, and don't need to look for it; it's always there for you when you want it, like I'd wish some ex's were...//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

If someone came up with a cheap way to retrofit tubed preamps to IR remote control without sacrificing SQ, I'd be all for it. I guess it's possible, but it's one of those projects I'm too lazy to figure out.

Here Here JimJ lol. Also, you could always try the reciever when you get the speakers and the sub and if you dont like it go shoping for a new one. But, it's prolly fine if it's in good condition and was never abused. I sometimes run a 1980's Kyocera R-851 when listening to old Albums, and it still sounds beautiful thanks to the 4 way oversized MOS-FET output transistors.

Off topic.....sorry. But have you ever heard the DM602 S3 speakers?? That is what I'm thinking of replacing my Mirage speakers with. I'd also put the LCR 60 S3 with them.

Yes I have heard them I like them alot, they are pretty much the same speaker i have in the 601 but a little more grown up. The best thing that i can recomend is find a local shop who sells B&W and just go listen.
