That's real boredom to hack into a system that really won't have any longterm affects and that offers no real gain outside of personal entertainment.

Not necessarily. Of course the obvious effects were just obscene messages, but who knows exactly how they got through (into the system(s))? For example, they could've discovered new systems to get into from that particular system, and since they said the network was owned by contractors, the 'hackers' could use that info to their advantage and see if there are other things this contractor does. If so, they could try the same measures they took to get into these systems to get into others.

I hate 'hackers' who beg for attention.
