so it depends on how far you're going from the distro block to the amp.
if you're that concerned, just use 2/0 all the way until you get to the amp, then drop it to 4 guage by trimming copper, using a wire gauge reducer (think stinger), and heat shrinking the whole thing...
If its truely 4,200 rms I wouldn't risk using a 4 gauge. What amp are u using? I think with that much power u should've initially been using a 1/0 gauge at least.
im gonna be running the Power Acoustik SL-5500d. i dont think anybody is running one of those yet, but somebody was telling they do rated power. the only reason i was going to run a block is i have another amp running my mids. i figured it might be slightly less draw on my electrical system to split the wire at the block than to just run seperate power wires. what do you guys think?

It will be the same as far as your electrical system is concerned. If you're running over 4kW I'm hoping you've done enough in the way of electrical upgrades that you shouldn't be concerned.
Best setup would be seperate runs from the battery for the sub amp and the mid/high amp.
