Ok It's been a while since i've acyually wired my own car unlike back in the days when i was doing a new car almost every month or so. So i guess you could call me a newb again. So here is my problem I finally got the right Harness for my 98 Ford mustang GT, I wired up my Alpine CDA 7897 I have power, but no sound at all. Now the only wires that i didnt hook up to the head unit harness was amp turn on (blue and white stripe) and power antena (solid blue). Do i need to wire the amp turn on to the 12v ignition & acc or do i need to bypass the amp. im at a loss....also this is a non mach 460 car so someone please tell me what i'm missing.

The amp wont turn on if the remote lead isnt connected.
Wire that blue lead directly to the amp's remote power terminal.

Well the blue wire is from the factory harness not from the Alpine harness. The Alpine harness doesnt have a amp turn on wire. what it has is a blue remote wire (that i tried) a power antenna wire and a phone mute wire. do i have to attach the blue amp turn on wire to maybe the power wire. or maybe im just off altogether. I neglected to say that the Alpine unit is powered where as the factory head unit in non pwered although im sure most of you probably know that.

well I connected the amp turn on from the Alpine and the amp turn on from the factory harness together and yet still no sound. I know that it is a non mach car it came factory with an indash cd player but nothing upscale. Now i remember back in my foxbody days you had to unplug the factory amp under the passenger seat whener you hooked up an aftermarket radio that was powered. weather this is the case now im not sure.

Wire the amp turn on wire from the harness to the remote wire on the back of the alpine this will create a harness for the remote (aka. remote turn on/ amp turn on) run a wire form this amp turn on at the harness to your amplifire's remote 12V

In lue of that you can take a small peice of wire and jump it from the power on the amp to the remote on the amp, this will make the amp power on but it won't turn off.

Even non-Mach Mustangs have factory amps, but if you dig around in the radio cavity you can find a standard Ford type harness that bypass the factory amp automatically. If you are using the small, square 8-pin plug for your speakers, you're feeding the factory amp. Look for the broad, flat 8-pin plug instead.
