Not Your Typical "Place the speakers in the Door" thread

I have an 08 dodge avenger and on the door it has a grill that is about the size of a 6.5 speaker which isn't removalbe. I had an idea of placing my component woofer in the door where the grill is. I know this would be a permanet fixture as far as the door is concerned.

My question is, how difficult would it be for me to intall the woofer there? What would the process consist of? Is it sometimg that is better left to a pro to do?

remove the entire door panel? do you want to just replace the speakers? or fabricate ones that are too large to fit in the stock mounts?

The spekers are inherently 6x9's but the grill that's on the actual door panel looks like a 6.5 grill. THAT'S where I would like to put a mid driver...so basically the woofer would be showing....

Seems typical by me!...lol

Door fab is my favorite! Just need some baffles and know how technical you wanna be.

You could put a 6.5 adapter in place of the 6x9 tho.

I know I could just get an adaptor, but I think my grill on my speakers ( jl c5) look kinda good, and I think it would look kinda nice if the woofer and grill were showing.

What steps do I need to pull it off? I'm not sure where to start (apart from cutting a hole in the door! Lol

bassically you fail hard. Very hard. It would look ridiculous to put those there. My friend has the same model car and I know what you are talking about. Do not do what you are thinking of doing. Just put an adapter where the 6x9 opening it and put your 6.5s in there.

You could simply panel mount with a MDF baffle and flush it in with Duramix 4040 since it sands well. Then SEM paint the thing. Or get real techy about mid bass response and do some heavier modding.

I have no idea what the contours and such are so I'd have to be pretty vague on it.

Capitancheesy, why would that be a fail? I've seen a few door panel builds, and the grill already looks like a grill for a 6.5. Woofer. I think the grill on my componets would look nice
