No power to Pioneer DEH-X6700BT

I had installed a pioneer head unit into my 2006 nissan sentra 1.8s a few months back. My first time, didn't know what I was getting into. Got it working no problem, but like a dumb *** I cut the factory harness and wired it by twisting and wrapping with electrical tape. Also didn't have anything to put around the head unit so there was just an empty space around it. Pulled it out a few weeks ago to do the wiring better with butt connectors and to add the whatever you call it that goes around the unit so it doesn't look so terrible. Wasn't working, thought I had everything connected right, but couldn't get power. Found I had blown the fuse this time, replaced it, still not working, figured I fried the unit. Decided to upgrade to the Pioneer X6500-BT as it looked awesome. Then found out the stereo did work, I just had to have the headlights on. Decided not to fix it since I knew I would be getting the better unit soon. So I have been out all morning installing new speakers (they all work, tested them before I took out the old Pioneer unit). I have checked and rewired over and over again, finally getting rid of the butt connectors and getting crimping caps so I knew the wires were staying in contact... still can't get power to it. All fuses are in good shape. Any advice or ideas on what to try next? Really stumped and I live in Florida and it's like 100 degrees out here so you can imagine how frustrated I am!
