Sounds like they are not very happy about the situation. (Not that I would be either, I think its a great idea)DELAND, Fla. -- When a motorist ran over a Volusia County family's dog, a terrier, and left him dead in the road, the family started exercising their freedom of speech.
The family expressed themselves through a sign in their front yard reading: To the person who killed my dog and didn't stop, may you rot in hell.
"Spike got the best spot in the bed, and Spike got the best of the covers," Bob Litteton said.
But Wednesday morning, Spike disappeared from their fenced-in yard and escaped.
It didn't take long for Bob to find Spike at an intersection, dead in the road.
"A lady who walks her dog had seen the car and saw the person hit Spike and continue on down the road," Littleton said.
"It's like losing a family member. It's not just a dog," Share Littleton said.
"I'm sure that my son doesn't want people to burn in hell because they hit a dog, but you can understand the anger that went with it. It's the thoughtlessness," Bob Littleton said.
"Granted it's a dog, whatever, it could have been a child. It was a child to me. It was my child. And this is the little grave with his Spike on it for Spike," Danielle Deery said.
The family said the sign is not meant to offend people, it's meant to hit the person who killed Spike right where it hurts.
