news from the world of isux...

The only good thing about Crutchfield is that their prices are always too high. It lets the buyer go
window shopping first and then go to the local retailer and make the purchase.
Prices are too high, eh?

But yet, amazingly, they are still in business year after year after year selling their wares at MSRP or just a bit below and I do not recall any accounts of Crutchfield's most recent stock report indicating that they were in any danger of going under???

Personally - if I were going to pay full retail pricing on something I would prefer to pay retail + nothing from Crutchfield as opposed to retail + applicable sales tax at a B&M store.

But that's just me...

I never said they were going under did I? McDonalds will make you fat but every day millions of fat people still eat there. A sucker born every minute. My main point is that you can get a better deal at a B&M store. B&M = brick and mortar for those of you wondering. Who the hell (with the internet) pays MSRP these days?

Even before the internet I never paid MSRP when I walked into an electronics store.

Interesting......

a) "JL is not making enough money" - I doubt that and have been told point-blank otherwise. Even if I didn't know anyone involved, I would wager that a company that is not making enough money would quit doing R&D and try to stabilize a little bit, and that's not happening at all.

b) Just speculation, but I'd say that they are at last moving to the highest grossing POS. Last horse to cross the finish line, if you will.

That seems a bit awkward... ED reporting news on JL? //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/confused.gif.e820e0216602db4765798ac39d28caa9.gif
I was thinking the exact same thing.

eD should stick to worrying about eD rather than gossiping about other companies.

I've seen this on a couple different boards. Again, my .02...
This does not surprise me at all. Having been an installer from 1989-1996 I've seen all the major

players move their focus to the big box stores. Alpine, Kenwood, Rockford, all promised protected

territories to the small dealers. This soon changed. In fact, I remember sitting in a Kenwood sales

meeting and being told "We(Kenwood) will let the big chains sell Kenwood but the specialty shops, and

only specialty shops, will get the Excelon line" - - BS

eBay changed the world. in fact it dictates the selling price for a lot of items. Look at Kicker. I

doubt if Kicker would still be in business if it wasn't for eBay. They make good products but no one was

buying them, not at retail price. Now at eBay prices they are flying off the shelves. Kicker will tell

you they have protected territories but there's no way that 3000 amplifiers a week hit the black market

without them knowing where the leak is. How many ARC audio products do you see on eBay? None. Because

ARC actively works to make sure they don't.

The only good thing about Crutchfield is that their prices are always too high. It lets the buyer go

window shopping first and then go to the local retailer and make the purchase.

Rant over.

I agree. Most of the people I have ever seen lookign through a crutchfield have no intention of actually buying it from them. Just gives them an idea of what is available. Since almost everything in Crutchfield can be found at the local B/B or C/C most people tend to just go to the store and get it. This cuts out shipping time, plus they get to talk face to face with someone about the product. If JL were going to use Crutchfield I honestly don't think it would really improve sales. Perhaps B/B would feel it a little because the people flipping through the catalog may now be a little more inclined to go to the local shop and check out JL. Prices for JL equipment will remain the same no matter what, I think. I can't see Crutchfield selling enough of it to offer some sort of deal that JL hasn't already done. Until JL decides to focus less on marketing they will always be not worth the money but as said already, there is a sucker born every minute and the same JL buyers will buy the same JL stuff. Only now they might be doing it on the computer. Everyone already knows about JL whether they sell online or not. If the idea of selling through Crutchfield is an attempt to reach new buyers then I think it's a bad move. If they are just interested in creating a new way to sell products then I think it's a good move. Either way I don't think their prices will go down and I don't think sales will go up.

The other thing not taken into account is what lines Crutchfield will get. They may only get the E or A line of amps, not the Slash series. Or maybe only get the W0 and W3 subs and not the W6 and W7. Kind of like the Kenwood vs Excelon thing I mentioned earlier.

I think ED is trying to show the public that the Internet is a viable marketplace like saying "Look, JL is going mail order also" or "JL is trying to be more like us" blah blah blah

I must also add that Custom Sounds was blowing out 12w3's a few weeks ago for like 99 bucks each.
