Hi just want to introduce myself . My name is tom I'm from Chicago . I just recently decided to put some subs in my ford econoline passenger van . I have a 12 in Jl w7. I plan on manking a custom fiberglass box. Ibhavent decided on an amp yet . I've been out the car audio game since high school . I was wondering what are some good brands of amps ? Are kicker and jbl, elemental design, hifonics still good quality amps? I can get a matching Jl 1200.1 amp but don't really want to shell out the cash .the subwoofer put a dent in my wallet . Also what would be a good place to mount my subwoofer? Front of van ? Back of van ? I would appreciate any tips or input . Thanks

Audioque 1200.1 would be my choice. Put the sub in the back of the van.

No prob. I'm assuming the box will be ported?? If so, port facing the back for sure.

Not sure yet if it will be ported. I wanna go with a stealth install and hide the sub amp under the back seat . Might not have enough space for a ported box. I was thinking a fiberglass box would be best so that incantation get the airspace the sub needs without the big box. Have you ever experimented with a ported fiberglass enclosure ? I'm a big DIY type of guy I'm always open to experiments

I live in a bad area so a stealth install is a must . I park in a garage but I still don't want them in the back all in the open

Oh man, wish you would have come here before the sub purchase. That is a really good sub, but overpriced, and I think you would have been happier with more cone area like 2 15's with that much space in that van. What's your budget for the amp?

It seems people are having luck sidefiring their ports as well. I did it in a hatchback and have seen it done in other hatchbacks/SUV's/vans and it seems to play well. I feel that you should go ported due to the size of your van and the need for output.

350 ish on the amp but I will jump on a deal if its a little mote. The sub was free basicly insurance claim replaced my little.brothers sounds that got ripped off . They didn't cover the Amp though since he didn't save the receipt .

Stealth won't yield much output in the big of a van my friend :/

You could build a 4th order though. You could have it designed so that you never see the sub, you will just see the box.

ive seen a couple w7's in 6th orders that would do very well, but it wont be a fiberglass box, and it will be big,

on the good side though you wont see the woofer at all, so if you do it right it will just look like a box...
