wow...all this over 2 subs thats not even out yet....i know whenever the mx subs come out i'm buying it. based on what was told to me over the phone when i called re to order my se's

but heres a interesting thought........being that the noe magnets are expensive...

magnets aren't expensive... steel is expensive a 2"-3" disc neo magnet would only be a few dollars a speaker

the reason the XXX is more expensive isn't because it uses a 9" ish OD ferrite magnet... it's because it has a 9" ish top and bottom plate

Wow, I think a mod should do this place a favor and close this thread. It pretty much has done nothing but waste time for alot of people.

Yes, RE is awesome. Yes RE has good products. NO, knowbody knows anything about the new drivers except for an estimated price, and thats not even for certain. David might have said the price is going to be a little higher just to feel it out to see if they think they could sell it for that price. The only people who really know for sure are RE personell.

once specs are released... and mostly you should worry yourself with the Sd of the thing

Come on Feandil, you have speculated more about this/these subs than anyone else on this board so far as Ive seen. Don't climb too high on that horse when someone comes along with positive speculation about the things.

I speculated as to what the specs will LOOK LIKE

I have said nothing whether it will be a good speaker or not... superior or not to the old XXX

I have a feeling it won't be... simply due to the massive Sd loss...

the guy blantantly STATED that it would be so much better than the old one and be worth the $600...

it would have to gain a lot of efficency, and a lot of Vd to be superior to the old XXX

and to be honest it only could have lost both efficency and massive Sd over a normal 12" like the old XXX

I just find it funny you chastize someone for speculating about the sub (in a positive light) because they know nothing about the specs, yet you miss no opportunity to speculate yourself. If anything, your speculation goes further than his, getting very specific. He was basically saying he thought it would be a solid product since its coming from RE. my "guesses" are based upon knowledge I have about the MX and the XXX... both of them

they use the same cone as the old XXX's used... the coil likely is 2-3x heavier than the old one used (just using split coil over XBL2 will add a lot... then add 50mm one way and you have a VERY large coil)... the spider is heavier... the surround is much heavier...

all that only leads to one place... efficency losses.... no matter how you look at it

had he made a point such as "this has so much more excursion than the old one and therefore would be better" I doubt people would have jumped on him like they did

I never said it wasn't possible I'm completely wrong... maybe RE dumped their old super durable cones in light of a much lighter paper and sacrificed a "rocking free" perfectly balanced moving mass structure... just looking at the speaker you realize how much Sd is lost from that at least 1.5" wide 1/2 roll surround... probably down to most 10" subs

the only way to get back to beat the old XXX is to gain efficency (which .... unfortunately I don't see happening) and have 50-60mm one way... and both of these ways would simply TIE the old XXX in maximum output... not actually best it "by a super large margin that would show the JL w7 who's boss"

anyway... more than I wanted to get into...

Maybe I told him to wait for specs because of how UNLIKELY it is that it significantly bests the old XXX

yes because that's still a TERRIBLE reason to base an opinion upon

it's more the nature of what he said rather than him supporting RE

If he said "they look beefy, I bet they'll wang"

that's different... but he said that they NECESSARILY will blow away the competition... and of course... this isn't true

Look, again I didn't ask for a paragraph of speculation justifying your theories, Ive read it all before. And Im also not even saying you are wrong to speculate. But I am saying you are wrong to question this person's speculation based on his lack of knowledge of actual specs. You do not know anymore about these subs actual specs than does that guy, yet your speculation goes much much further. But when this guy gives his opinion they will be good based on his previous experience with the company, you act like he killed baby jesus. Yes he's a bit over enthusiastic about the company probably, but give him a break, he's just stating his opinion on the subject... dont think anyone took it as fact. This is all speculation no matter how educated it is... I doubt that any good is going to come from this thread... I don't see the need to extrapolate more information from what we know simply to clarify the quality of the XXX subs. We will all find out how they perform soon enough.

When they release specs and t/s we will know better what the real deal is...
