it IS a fat chick beetle (aka: a super) its not a bad thing in your case...more room for subs. better handling, smoother ride than the previous link pin/balljoint setups. better for the road racing crowd. sunroofers are a rare find I believe....may be a "sun bug". Need to look into that.

unless it has an aftermarket paintjob, that's no sunbug. but you never know who did what to it. sunbugs are very rare though, so if by chance you do have one(cross your fingers) if you keep it stock when you restore it you could get big returns. i wouldn't recommend turning it into a drag car if it's a sunbug. But then again i have an extremely rare model and im' going to customize the **** out of it lol.

2 of my neighbors had bugs and redid them i remember the one replacing the fenders and the rear quater panels. it was sweet and then the other one he painted it blue. had the chrome pipes coming out sideways, thing is loud he has the chrome 5 spokes on it. it is clean. i did see it the other day at the gas station and the body work aint to straight on it but nice find and nice price on it. keep pics coming when you do work on it.

iirc Sunbugs were only offered in 73 and 74, but i could be wrong.

sunbugs had custom steering wheels and shiftknobs that had little suns on them i believe.

edit: ok here's the details on a sunbug

1. Offered in 1974, as a "Special Edition" Beetle

2. Available as a Standard Beetle, Super Beetle, and Convertible; the non-Convertible models have sunroofs

3. Special Metallic Gold paint

4. VW's pressed steel "sport" wheels

5. Brown carpet and interior trim

6. Black seat upholstery with yellow inserts, or brown vinyl with brown inserts

7. Special Sun Bug shift knob

8. Special steering wheel

9. Wood grain paneling on the dashboard

10. Some Sun Bugs have a special emblem on the engine lid, which did not come from the factory, but was supposed to be put on by the dealerships

EA makes a 75a alt, but its like $225.. i think the yellow top i have in it right now puts out more power lol
