i ordered a new ipod and i was just wondering if it is true that you can only get songs from the first computer you plug it into?

yep pretty much unless you put the songs on all the computers you plug it to OR if you have an externial harddrive that you keep your songs on

That's not true. I've gotten songs from multiple computers without problems.

so if i put a bunch of songs on my dad's laptop, iwill be able to come home and use my home computer to put songs on it also? i got the new ipod video 30gb

If you install iTunes on the computer you can set it up to where you update the iPod manually. So it won't delete the songs. Same with the videos.
