new d3100 only shows 11.95?

i have an old everstart (i think thats the brand) charger, with 2 amp and 6 amp settings. i was thinking you were supposed to use some sort of special charger to charge agm batteries. so i can just put a slow 2 amp charge on it for a few hours, then take it to be load tested?

once i put it in line with my other batteries, they act as one battery and theres no way to tell whether its pulling its weight or not right?

You don't want to use one of those older chargers on a newer battery. It is easy to overcharge a newer style battery and that will destroy it once it is done. Basically older batteries were not sealed so if they were overcharged, all you had to do was simply add some water and they were like new. Since AGM batteries are sealed, you cannot replace the water that is lost when the battery is overcharged. Once you break that seal, they are as good as gone.

Either invest in a newer style AGM charger (as low as $50 at Wal-Mart) or simply take them to Autozone for a quick charge.

well i went out and bought a cheap (30 dollar) wal mart charger, with 2/4/6 amp settings. hooked it up at the 6 amp setting and it says 25% charged, going to let it work overnight, and have it load tested tomorrow.

i messaged the seller about it... he says he left his lights on overnight and drained the battery completely recently. also said he gave it a full charge before sending it out and that he "had hoped it wouldnt do this." i sort of hoped that myself, since i just paid him 300 bucks for a battery he said was barely used //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/furious.gif.fc81ca146dbff91fede3ed290dbc4f4c.gif

If you don't have a charger you can always sit it on the ground and jump it to your car lol
batteries sitting on concrete for long periods of time is bad

i think autozone or cheker can charge it. they should know how to charge it. if they mess it up, you might get a new one.
doubt they'll replace a used battery.

Just buy a 2/10 amp charger from autozone, its all I use for mine
bad

You could damage those powermasters giving them the wrong charge rate. I bought my new d3100 sitting @ 12.4 volts, but in the caution instructions said that you should charge the battery before installing it or charge it if it was sitting without used for a long time. I bought my power master intelli charger to charge it and it now sits @ 13.7 volts.
correct

in light of that information. you need to get a refund if that battery fails the load test.

as far as using a small charger. cells may heat up, release gas, and once released the battery becomes weaker.

here's what scottie johnson has to say

"AGM batteries of this size (like the Optima/Kinetik/Odyssey/XS Power) need at least 25 amps of charge current to be able to re-charge in a timely manor. A low amperage charger doesnt necessarily damage anything, it just may cause the battery to heat up and could damage the battery. I have heard of tons of stories of people ruining Optimas from leaving them on this type of charger. I wouldnt waste anymore money on other types of chargers... if your alternator is charging it now, then I would just leave it at that and dont try to use any other charger you dont trust to leave alone. "

hope this helps.

hmm... i left it at 6 amps for about 4 or 5 hours and it still shows 25% charge.

the largest charger walmart had was a marine one with a 15a option. i may just have autozone charge it for me today and load test it.

even at 6 amps it should have come up some....i think you did all the tests that are needed...//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crap.gif.7f4dd41e3e9b23fbd170a1ee6f65cecc.gif

That is the danger of sealed agm batteries, they are not very forgiving when neglected. It sounds like it has 2 or more damaged cells. Do yourself a favor and dont waste anymore time with it. Start working on a refund.

That charger is too small. Like other said, look for a 35a model.

As for what the seller told you after the fact, I would simply demand a refund. If he left his lights on and drained the battery that far, the battery is likely dead for good. If he left it sitting in a discharged state for a few days, you are going to have some dead cells for sure. The fact that he "fully charged" it after it died and it is only resting at 11.95v says it all.

Just take to Autozone and let them do it. That way you can say I had a professional charge and test it in case you need help getting a refund.

The 6a charger is too small for that big of battery. That battery could draw up to 50a or more when discharged that low.

Ah man.
How did I miss that one? No putting a plastic case battery on concrete is not going to hurt the battery. What might happen is that the cold concrete will make the battery cold, and therefore, less powerful, that is until it warms back up. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif
