New CDs out today

Actually, after finishing the Tool CD it's probably a C+ at best.........it wasn't as great as I thought it would be, it starts off good but it just kind of goes from there. It does tie together very nicely but it just has to many long drawn out parts(dont' care for that).

I'll listen to the new Thursday CD tonight and yeah the one with all the binary numbers on the CD, around the center going in a circle, I found out it's called "Full Collapse." My friend was telling me that I should listen to "War all the time." I might pick it up tomorrow.

Isn't that what the band is all about anyway.....the unexpected. What exactly did you expect? Have you really listened to any of their previous albums? They give you a damn recipe for chocolate chip cookies in German on Aenima //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crazy.gif.c13912c32de98515d3142759a824dae7.gif

I own Aenima and Undertow, and I love love love undertow awesome CD. This cd just wasn't all that great, I mean don't get me wrong ( I think you are) it's a very decent album it just wasn't exactly what I expected. It starts out very heavy and hard and just an all out kind of raw sound, then just kind of goes off on these long drawn out parts that are somewhat slow and just I dunno.

I'm not saying it's a horrible CD, i'm just saying it's not the best I've heard by them.

Your assessment is fair and I respect your opinion....For a minute there I thought you were giving it a C+ because it wasn't as 'great' as you expected. Perhaps you'd like to share what is the 'best' you've heard from them?? Not trying to be a dick....just opening a dialog.

I got the tool cd, but have yet to listen too it. Cant wait.
Who is this Thursday group? Never heard of them.

post indie/screamo band.

i HATED HATED HATED their style when i very first listened to them. could NOT stand them. then i kinda "forced" myself to listen to them, and i actually grew to like them. they are pretty good. if you've ever heard the band, "blindside", they sound just like them.

but one of their best songs is "jet black new years". read the story behind that song. you can just feel their raw emotion/hatred/anger towards each other at that point in time. (long story). hardest (heaviest) song they've written. ever.

"full collapse" was a great cd. i loved it. "war all the time" was an ok cd. not their best work, but still worth listening to. still a great all around band.

as for the tool cd, the artwork is A-M-A-Z-I-N-G. the nifty glasses "enhance" the artwork. pretty badass.

i agree tho, the cd is just drawn out and alot of instrumental really. just like lateralus. it did tie together VERY WELL. just not their best work. but still has that signature sound, but kinda slower paced than most other cds.

IMHO, Aenima is their best cd, BY FAR. great amazing cd. my burned copy is scratched all to hell, so only my 360 will play it now, but i always listen to the songs off of Aenima when i go to a pool hall. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/cool.gif.3bcaf8f141236c00f8044d07150e34f7.gif

The opening to the CD is superb and the guitar work is also impressive( sounds a lot better than simple riffs in Aenima). I like how they are experimenting with new sounds like on track two, when there is a solo for the guitar and he's using that thing you put in your mouth to make noise with (guy from bon jovi and david gilmore from pink floyd use it I just don't know what it's called). Track three kind of starts the beginning of drawn out parts, I'm just honestly not a fan of really really slow build ups like this. It is enjoyable but I will skip it from now on just b/c I want something heavy RIGHT NOW. It does have a part that is thick, sharp, and that hard sound but it ends quickly. Again don't care for track 4 it's just like 3. Now, track 5 starts off awesome and I've always thought Maynard has had such a dynamic voice and shows that in track 5. The sound that track 5 produces is very creative and the sound I like. Once again, guitar work here is just awesome and very well written.

I'll finish my in depth review later, I have to leave now but that's as far as I've gotten as far as "closely" listening to this cd. We will finish this later FoxPro5 //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

I will have to check that out when I get on my home computer. I have heard of blindside and they are not too bad. So that has got my attention now. I surprised I really never heard of them before.

The Tool cd is pretty good, but does sound like there other cds to me, which isnt bad, but not good. I was expecting big things and I am all toghther happy, just thought it would be a little better.

Agreed, you really have to patient and let yourself "get in" to the album. I was quite suprised at MJK's little acapella on "The Pot" (track 5)....and it is probably my favorite so far. Danny's East Indian influence really shines on several parts which kind of brings back sort of a "Eulogy" (track 2 of Aenima) vibe to it...which is my all time favorite track from Tool.

I really dug that instrument you mentioned in Jambi....really reminded me of Peter Frampton's "Do You Feel Like We Do." Also that song has some great throw back Jimi Hendrix style riffs //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/naughty.gif.94359f346c0f1259df8038d60b41863e.gif

So far I've made it through the entire album twice. It will take some time to mature on me. 10 minute long tracks with mutiple arrangements seem to be the norm for Tool, but not for Metal tracks in general. Most people aren't used to that lenght of track so I could see how some might loose interest or might feel that the abum is good, but not what they expected.

The lyrics are not in the CD so I will have to look them up online when they're posted to get a better idea what the crazy mofo's trying to say now //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/rolleyes.gif.c1fef805e9d1464d377451cd5bc18bfb.gif

WORD

I can't wait until Angels & Airwaves gets their new album released.
i've heard of them, but never HEARD them. can anyone give me an idea on their sound i.e. who they sound like? jw.

but yeah, tool is infamous for their 8+ minute long tracks. alot of the tracks start of really slow and build up, and that's just not my thing. i usually end up skipping like 4 or 5 tracks on that cd, but i do like it for the most part. i listen to it everyday. hehe.
