I have an 8 and a 6.5 that I want to put in each of my doors. I like to make this an SQ build as much as possible. I'm under the impression that I will get better mid bass from these drivers if I can seal off my doors and have the speakers firing directly into the door cavity. I'm also under the impression that the best placement for the 8 and 6.5 is right next to each other. So, my problem is the location of the current holes in my door. The factory speaker location is fine for the 8, after customizing the door panel, but the other hole is further back on the door and will essentially be firing right into the seat. I could possibly custom mount the 6.5 to be angling up so that the majority of the soundwave is going over the seat... but that would just be helpful on passenger side when noone is sitting there. On drivers side, the speaker would still be firing directly into my hip. So is this a big deal? If I were to move the 6.5 next to the 8 then it will not be lined up with the door cavity and I'd be losing out on that performance benefit. I've been racking my brain like crazy on this and watching a ton of other people's builds. It seems most people just mount their speakers on top of the existing door panel and then glass over it all. But these setups aren't firing into the door cavity... so they're missing out on some performance right? Any insight is much appreciated. It's my first build. I'm up for the challenge of rebuilding/fiberglassing my doors, I just can't conceptualize where the speaker placement should be. It doesn't help that I have a stupid window crank in there as well...lol. Here's a couple pics..
