My preout's not 5volt?

I just need some quick info on why this is happening. SO I have an Alpine PDX1.1000 amp with has a setting .01-1.0volts or 1.0-8.0volts...My headunit (JVC KD-AHD69) claims it has 5volt preouts.

When I use the 1.0-8volt setting I get very very little bass coming from the sub but when its at .01-1.0volts it's loud. Can someone clarify why this is happening?

amp gain knobs very by amp so the labeling isnt normally pin point accurate. but you may have a setting on the radio like the bass level set real low causing a lower voltage to be sent to the amp.

for instant my alpine is 1-15 for bass adjustment at 1 i get .4v on a 50hz sine wave were as at 15 i get 4.3v which since my deck is rated for 4volt outs i use the setting of 15 to set my amps gain then i turn it down to where i find is comfortable to listen.

Some headunits have a subwoofer output setting (not a bass setting its usually called sub output). This controls the preout voltage of your subwoofer RCA's. You usually have to set it to the max to get your full preout.

lol beat you to it

and op are you sure u dont maybe have the two labels mixed up maybe the factory soldered the connectors backwards idk as long as it works and it isnt giving you problems i say roll with it

Oh, I thought this was a form of Bass Boost :V so is it okay to have the Sub out turned up a bit?

I dont think I can choose, I'll try the amplifier setting? The options are Off (which it is at now) Low High. I'm pretty sure that has nothing to do with it though and I don't think mine has a volt option feature..Do you know what/where it is?

why not just use a dmm and not worry about the labeling around the gain adj? All my fosgate amps have that same layout and I have never used it, I think it's decoration since different ohm loads require different setting!

no I have a jvc it's for limiting the output for low powered speakers 30/50 I believe and it also shuts off the internal amp in case you want to run all external amps(highs&subs) so all the hu power is working towards musical reproduction through the pre-amp output.

I'm talking about the input selector on the amp.

Oh ok, I don't own a amp with High level inputs so didn't cross my mind, but wouldn't the amp not work(receive a signal) if using rca's but switched up to the high level input? or vise versa
