Lol yeah, SOOOO glad I went Air Force. I remember I was an E-3, and was sent TDY to provide support for an exercise, only me. I pushed our network out for a bunch of O-4's and above, and I was staying in a hotel. I remember just shootin the shit with an Army Major and he was pissed, because him and the other Army officers had to stay in open-bay barracks.Haha, nope, not trolling. Army allows spouses to live together overseas, and even makes special arrangements for them to be stationed together stateside.. As for "ALWAYS" deploying together, well you have to bring your marriage to the attention of your command and request the deployment, but its not a big deal.
In June there was a pretty big deal about people in the aid station and TOC using comp's for hotmail, and ebay and sh!t.. they made it a point that if you were caught using them for anything besides military purposes you would lose your NIPPER (or w/e) privilege
As for air force getting a bad rep, its mainly due to the excessive pampering they receive as a branch.. which isnt a bad thing I suppose, anyone smart would go air force haha. But an example.. I was doing extra medical training for 3 weeks with Army & air force. All the army guys were thrown in 82 man bays, air force got individual hotel rooms because "they would have to be paid hardship pay".... Hardship pay to live in an 80 man bay stateside?? lol thats just life in the army
About the .com's on NIPRNet computers, if the website isn't blocked by the branch's filters, like if you can still get to the website but command says you can't be there, that's all set locally. Usually that is downrange, where bandwidth is limited. You don't realize how much important traffic flows across unclassified systems (NIPR). There are a good number of locations where SECRET, TS, or above traffic is encrypted and flowing along those same lines. Needless to say, that's much more important than ebay. Also, sometimes there can be what's called a "comm minimize", which is local firewall filtering of all .com or any sites that the network guys see fit. This could be for a number of reasons, maybe something has happened and they don't want public getting word of it via facebook before they figure out what happened, or they lost a link, a bunch of stuff.
