My dash panels redo project -lots of bondo and sweat

First off let me start off by saying **** bondo. Its probably the most pain in the *** thing to use, ever. Now on to the thread.

This little project of mine started from me being bored with the woodgrain look in my car. The car is pretty old and im always doing things to better it so i figured this would be another thing to add to the list. I planned on pulling the woodgrain panels, bondoing the stepdown in to give it a contour, and then painting them satin black to match other parts of the interior. Heres what i got so far

Heres the PITA - the gauge cluster panel. Im filling in the stepdown with bondo to give it a nice smooth contour for a more modern look i guess. Got 1/2 of it done. Should have it finished today, the last 2 parts are drying now then im going to sand and touch up.

Heres a little piece of plastic i cut out to fill the gap behind the headlight nob, the piece of plastic that goes there was missing.

Ill be posting more later as i do more with it. My next step after this is to pull the center panel, flush mount my volt meter, and bondo it up then paint it.

that tube of stuff isnt bondo....thats just spot filler...used to fill lil imperfections after bondo.....bondo is thicker than stuff so its easier to use.....krylon fusion paint ftw tho.

I thought so. First time using anything bondo so its still a major PITA. I didnt wanna fork out the 15$ for a can so i just got a small tube for like 2$. The fusion paint does work great, i think im gonna need to clearcoat it though too, seems to have a weird sticky texture

bondo products ****. there are other fillers that are better and sand a lot easier. rage gold is good stuff.

Ive used nothing but Bondo products (mat, resin, filler, and putty) on my current panels and they have worked great for me...and $15 for a tub of filler is steep....Walmart has the small tub for like $8.....the have the gallon tub for $18...that spot putty will work out in the long run tho...just a PITA to use on tedious projects like you used..should look good tho.,.....and that tacky tecture should go away once it has cured totally..

Ya I found out through trial and error rage gold and colorflo are the best fillers that sand easy as hell
