Would a HU play a dvdR with music on it if the the music was burned into mp3 format?

I don't think it would. It probably has to able to read dvds.

yep. i haven't carried cd's for years. you're head unit has to read dvd, in order to read the disc. and it also depends on the software you use. for example: nero burns them different than roxio. the nero burned dvd mp3's, won't play on an old PS2, but roxio burned ones will.
