Mod your PS2?

My friend is going to give me a PS2 to put in my car since he thought playing SNES on my dvd player was so cool, lol. AAAAAnyway, I recall reading that there's a way to burn SNES/NES games and play them through the PS2. If this is true, then I'm sure it has to be modded. I'm scared to get in there and mess something up. Have any of you done this? How much trouble is it?

I paid for mine to get done. $80 for the chip installation and 5 games. Messiah mod chip.
