finally ordering the speakers and we want the mj 18 but dont want the mdf box sitting in the room. Something that looks finished, dark cherry to go with the rest of the house. Anybody know some other non powered subs that can compete with the price of the mj 18 and are in a finished box? Looking to just use a dayton 500w. plate amp.

Sorry I was in a rush. I originally wanted a MJ-18 and a dayton 500w plate amp, and planned on building my own box for it. This is all for my home stereo. My dad decided he wants the sub to match the rest of our stuff which is dark cherry. What I need now are some suggestions on powered or non powered subs for the home stereo. I need dark cherry, and preferably under $400.

No, you are not going to find an 18 or 15 in a finished box for $155.

You can get a Titanic 15" kit with a finished box and plate amp from

Parts Express, and it is reasonable for what you get.

So don't use MDF. Use wood, stain and varnish. Or use MDF and veneer it.
