Might be buying a Golf...?

Well, I blew the engine in my Jeep as some of you know... I found a motor for $700 but I also just found a '94+? Golf for $600 (she wants a quick sale). Haven't driven it yet, or really even taken a good look at it. It's been sitting in front of a buddies house and apparently it's his cousins.

Basically what I want to do is buy it for $600, drive it for a couple weeks while advertising it for a $1000. During this time I'll rip the motor out of my Jeep and find a way to get the other motor here. I can take my time and do everything right instead of trying to rush it, like I am right now.

Anyways... I'm not really a fan of FWD, nor am I fan of 4cyl's, but this seems like a good deal and I really want to try out a 5spd.

Anyone have one? What are they like? Quick? (I'm not sure if it's the 1.8 or 2.0 though) Pretty reliable? It has about 300k KM's but I know these things run forever. I'm just hoping the clutch is still decent.

I'm afraid if I buy it though... I might like it. And I really don't want to sell my Jeep after the amount of work I've poured into it.

I luv dubs, had a 1997 gti VR6 drivers edition, and they are very sweet rides, but cost a small fortune to do maintanance on...european cars FTW fixing them FTL

I think if I was keeping it, I'd be more worried about maintanance, but I know what you're saying. This stuff ain't cheap.

I don't really have a choice. I wasn't really looking for another vehicle, this is just a chance to make a few extra hundred dollars and drive a 5spd for a while.

Anyways... I don't know really anything about imports... What size is the vr6?

Also, what years are classified as an MK3?
