Members with crotchrockets, hogs, choppers, whatever, is ya'lls insurance really high on the bikes?

I have heard rumors of insurance being in the thousands per 6 months. Is this true?

Been considering getting a bike, and can afford the bike itself and normal insurance prices, but not outrageously high rates.

Thanks.

What I usually do is I'll get insurance for May-September, and then cancel it until next May. I figure if I'm not gonna ride it in the winter, wtf would I want insurance? There are obvious reasons to that question but I store it in my basement with the cover on.

But as far as insurance prices go it depends on the bike. I'll give you an example....

Take my 04 Ducati 999 I purchased last year and compare insurance to a Suzuki GSXR-600.......which one has the highest premium???? Most people would say the 999 because the engine is bigger but there wrong, the 600 has a MUCH higher premium then the Duke. Why is this???? Far more people own a GSXR-600

then a Duke 999. If more people are owning a 600 and are crashing the ***** and acting like total ******** on the bike, then the national average will eventually go up for the bike. But a Duke 999 is a rareity, and most people who own one are responsible and don't need to show off on it cause after all its a Ducati, therefore less accidents, less premium on the national average for the model.

My dad knows an insurance agent, pretty much makes sense.

27, male, no tickets/accidents, cruiser (2004 yamaha roadstar 1670cc) and I pay $31 bucks a month

Appears that being young, bad driving record, and/or riding a crotch rocket will raise them rates.

Yes its high. Thats a standard thing on bikes.

I pay 1000 a year for full coverage on an 07 R1.

However, I only insure it 6 months out of the year, and then during the winter months, its only insured for comp. Talk to your insurance company about that, they will work it out with you.

Most places have rolling covereage as well, where your coverage is 6 months full or basic...and then 6 months of just comp. And you can choose the 6 months. Split up, all together or whatever. YOu can usually get away with riding alot more than 6 months, but either way its nice, if you have a really warm winter or spring, and a rainy summer...

Its also realllly cheap for basic coverage...I was paying just 200 bucks for 6 months for that
