It just doesn't combust. THC is comprised of several different structures of cannabinoids. There are two main kinds with tons of off shoots. CBD and CBN. Most variety of strains these days are usually a hybrid of both Indica and Sativa, with some more favoring one or the other.
The temperature of a solid vaporizer is supposed to trigger only the release of the cannabinoids without the plant matter combusting (which still releases the cannabinoids but also a lot of other things that you dont want/need)
In the end, the high is a lot cleaner feeling. You also avoid inhaling about 3/4 of what you would normally inhale if you were to smoke it regularly.
This is actually off. You meant to say that MJ contains many compounds, one of which is THC, along with the other main ones CBD(Cannabidiol), and CBN(Cannabinol). There are 75+ different cannabinoids that have been isolated, probably more -- I haven't looked at any info for a while. These cannabinoids all have different psychological and physiological effects, ranging from a psychedelic(THC), to antitumor, anticonvulsive, antianxiety, etc. There have been studies done all around the world(mostly in Europe and South America) that show what some of these compounds actually do. And some of the compounds have multiple effects. One cannabinoid may interact with only the CB1 receptor while another may interact with both CB1 and CB2. Even within the same receptors, different compounds will create different effects. Not every cannabinoid that interacts with CB1 will do the same thing(obviously).
You have to wonder why we have receptors named after cannabinoids, I'm sure. The reason for this is that your body already creates and uses cannabinoids daily for various things. It's called the endocannabinoid system, and it affects things ranging from appetite, to mood, even to your digestive system as a whole. There have been many different compounds found in the body within this system, and that is why it's so important for us to research cannabinoids as a whole. Those endocannabinoids with similar chemical structures to ones found in cannabis have similar effects. The implications are pretty obvious, meaning that we would be able to breed various strains that can help balance digestion, or uplift our mood, etc., all while doing it naturally, freely, and most importantly, without relying on narcotics or pharmaceutical companies.
Anyway, I kind of went off track. I was trying to say that vaporizing is such an amazing method of use for medicinal purposes is that you can control the temperature. When you smoke, you're combusting the plant matter, releasing all cannabinoids, along with the molecular clusterfuc
k that is a myriad of carcinogens and other harmful compounds, not to mention the 500+ degrees of smoke that you're inhaling. Your lungs take a beating on many levels, and so do your mouth, tongue, esophagus, etc.
Vaporizing, on the other hand, is completely different. There is virtually no degradation of any cannabinoids from combustion(you hurt the THC by smoking it), and because cannabinoids are just molecular compounds, they have verifiable vaporization points, ranging from 200-400 degrees. You can look up these temperatures, and vaporize only what compounds help you and your specific ailment. Also, most (good) dispensaries now have created their own ailment-specific strains. They send samples to labs and get reports of the amounts of the various compounds that are found. So, you'll be able to find a strain with >50% CBD, and
If the federal government starts to realize(due to CO and WA's recent legalization initiatives), that users are not going away, and that in fact they're growing in numbers, along with the irrefutable evidence now readily available that these compounds
help, things will start to change on a national level. Of course, with the way the drug war has been for the past several decades, there will instead be an increase of illegal(in the state's view) raids, a higher presence of DEA on your local streets, and a lack of federal funding as a proverbial "
Fuck you." to these states. Things will likely get much worse before they get better, unless people throw away their preconceived notions and stubbornness, which I frankly don't see happening. They(federal government and prison system, etc.) have so much skin in the game, however, that even if people realize that cannabis use is a nonissue, they will keep up the oppression to fill their pockets.
