Well, I'm going to be doing a lot of installing in the near future, and I have several projects all lined up. I'd like my MECP certification, as it would certainly help in promoting myself locally. I've taken a look at some study guides and kits, and they range anywhere from $35 (http://www.mecp.com - Basic Installer Study Guide) to a whopping $1600 dollars at http://www.Metro-Auto.com. I'm not a dullard by any stretch of the imagination, and I don't want to wade through useless fluff that's not going to help me on the exam. I do not have the luxury (Darn Canada!) of going to an actual installer institude as redciv is going to do. What it boils down to, is: What "kit" will I need to ace the MECP certification exam? Please help!

You're sure the $35 dollar kit from MECP will be adequate? I'd have a tought time accepting anything less than 95% on the test. Have you seen it? It will have enough information?

It'll get you 95%, I did a 98 without ever opening the book... The benefit you have is they dropped most of the cellular CRAP that was in the version I took... Read and learn that book, you'll pass...

Btw, there are about two dozen things in that book I strongly disagree with... but... when you take the test, it's their answers or nothing...

thats what i had ... i got a 86 on it but on my test was alot of useless cell phone questions that the book hardly covered.....plus i never installed a cell phone most people get hand helds. and its a different type of test than u think alot of "best answer" questions

Yes, but you're a freak!

Good, since I know nearly nothing about cellular anything. I'm not worried with passing so much as pleasing myself. I'm a terrible critic.

Well, I doubt I'll know enough to identify one of them, let alone 24.

Thanks guys.

if you read the book youll pass , i didnt fully read it (just covered cell crap and nav crap) cause other jobs i had i had to know that crap. it isnt hard but they dont cover cell phone channels and crap.i did better on n.a.m.e. than mecp but mecp is the "big" one to me name is better

I realize that the certification on lasts 2 years. I received my installer certification about 5 years ago and my security specialist about 4 years ago. But I cannot see what has changed so much in those years that I need to be recertified. what is you guys opinion.

Well hell... I took mine last summer... I was informed it was supposed to be dropped... Exactly because of your reason, NOBODY IS DOING CELL PHONES ANYMORE!

I can't believe it's still in there... sigh...

what i wanna know is how you knew about cell transmisions cause it isnt in the book i had 14 cell questions (maybe 12) only got a couple right im sure.

I have friends that are ASE certified mechanics, they had a crapload of information in some of their reference manuals for the vehicles that used to come with factory equipped cell phones.. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif
