so i got a quote for Rhino series 250 amp (400$ shipped) from mechman. he said that plus a big batt should be perfect for ~4kwrms. that sound like a good deal? car is a 97 expedition

yeah it should. ive only got a 80a alt and the 3 batts with 3k

That's about right for that vehicle. Keep in mind that the Mechman stuff isn't just a rewound unit, it's redesigned and new so it is purpose-built for the application. Many aftermarket alternators are rewinds that may produce more amperage but at the cost of power production at lower rotor speeds.

depends on your listen hibits. i would just get 2 31's. make sure you do the big 3

That sounds about right, I just wanted to say I purchased my alt from Mechman and it very nice quality. He even included my power sheet to show how my alt performs at different rpms. I would buy from him again! I did the 250a alt, and a powermaster d3400 and I only have 2 sundown 1000's and a sundown 400!
