MDF vs Plastic... SQ?

hey guys im installing some components in my truck and I pulled my original 5x7s out of the front and cut the plastic they were originally in in order for my 6.5s to fit snug.

There is an airgap around the sides obviously and I plan on putting dynamat over it. My original reason for putting it in the plastic is because I didnt have any MDF or wood tools last night, but I think it came out good because not it fits under my door panel where it originally wouldn't.

My question is, am I sacrificing SQ by putting them in the plastic rather then MDF. Do they need to have a tight seal around the speaker??

Thanks in advanced u guys are all super helpful
