Mazda3 HU

Thinking about buying a mazda3 but worried b/c I always change out the HU. This thing has the radio all over the dash and I worry about not being able to put in an aftermarket HU. ANyone have any experience with these cars?

go to any car audio place(even bestbuy or radio shack) they will be able to tell u in a sec if u are able to change out ur HU

You can do it but.. its a bitch. Lotta custom work has to be done.

Is there any way to put in components, amps, subs, etc and run them off the stock head unit without it sounding like ass?

I've got a mazda3 and recently added an aftermarket head unit to it. No problems whatsoever-there are two dash kits available-one from metra and i forgot where the other is from. The only thing you lose when adding an aftermarket head unit is the little lcd screen above as it is connected to the radio. However with the 06 models, there is a seperate wire harness for the lcd display since it has climate control and trip computer functions so this probably wouldn't apply to you. I on the other hand ending up wiring my factory head unit into the trunk so i still use the display. Since the factory radio is single din, there's a pocket underneath the single din opening of the metra kit. I'll be getting some more images tomorrow in the light if you're interested.

As for keeping the stock radio-i used a navone loc for a few months to run my sub but once i upgraded the stereo had no need for it. People have used just a LOC though but the sq obviously won't be as great. There's also the JL cleansweep but if you're gonna spend that much you might as well just get a nice head unit. I like my eclipse because the colors go pretty **** well with the interior i think...
