I need some subs for my HT setup... running a Behringer EP2500, roughly 2000 watts bridged.....

current box is 2.5 cubes per sub sealed, but any subs I'm going to keep will get ported low.....

anyone with experience with these subs care to comment ?

A guy wants to sell me a pair..

Personally I would get a sub that plays lower than the MAW-15 for HT/home audio, but that is just me. It will work just fine if you don't really need 20hz bass. But if you want the house shaking low end extension and you have the available floorspace/airspace I would try something like the Tempest-X or Dayton Titanic.

As far as power, you'll be fine with that sub and amp if you just set the gain properly. You obviously wouldn't want to turn it all the way up since the MAW-15 is rated at 500WRMS.

If you have a relatively small listening room, the MAW-15 should provide you with decent output. Build big and tune low if you can. A pair of MAW-15's can get pretty loud for you.

Best,

Mark

the nicest sub for HT that i have seen lately would be the SDX15, or the new SDX10 if you were looking for something smaller. the SDX15 looks like a killer 15" sub for HT.

I wouldn't add mass to these. If you feel Fs is too high for your plan, I'd suggest you snag another driver with a lower Fs. Adding mass results in loss of sensitivity so where you gain at one end, you will lose at another.

Best,

Mark

Mass loading the cones for lower respone is never a problem...

is 500 watts pretty much the limit for these subs, or can they take power like a champ ?
I don't know but I wouldn't push it. You won't hear the difference between 500 and 650 watts anyway, so it should be irrelevant. If you need more output, go with 2 subs or get something that handles more power.

Thanks for the responses...

Mark, I'm not too worried about losing sensitivity at the typical '1khz' rating if I add mass to the cone //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

I've also got some tricks to loosen up spiders, if need be....

My main concearn is that my amp is rated for 1200 x 2 @ 2ohms... and while I can be carefull most of the time, I also have a tendancy to blow stuff up in some situations.... //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/tongue.gif.6130eb82179565f6db8d26d6001dcd24.gif

I will ponder the idea a while more, but will probably look for a pair of 15's that are a little beefier....
