M500 w/ SWR-10D4 Type-R. Is it enough?

Hey everyone, I just recently installed my Alpine M500 and my SWR-10D4 Type-R wired to 2ohm in a Sound Ordnance Bass Bunker Sealed single 10" subwoofer enclosure (Model BB10-75S) (.76 CUBIC FEET) I am running a Pioneer AVH-x4600bt head unit.

My issue at hand is my sub just doesn't seem to hit hard. On a few random hip/hop songs it has some good drive. But at lower volumes the sub is almost non-existent. My car's stock 8" free air sub had more kick than this thing. If the volume is turned up the speakers become overwhelming so it is counter productive for hearing the sub. I have spent hours trying to tune this in every combination of settings. I listen to an array of music, so I want to try to get it to work across the spectrum.

Is this amp adequate for this sub? I have been looking into a kenwood kac-9106d to get the RMS up since the RMS on this sub is 500-1000, and this alpine's amp max is 500.

Thanks!

(Update) I found the issue to the problem. There was as bad connection to the head unit. Sorry about that!

It depends on your def of loud, but I used to run an M500 (BC was 575 watts @ 2ohms) pushing 2 10" MTX's subs at 2 ohms (rated at 200-400 RMS each) in an SQ setup and the bass was very clean and was loud enough for most with enough SPL to feel the kick drum even on double bass. The M500 amp worked like a champ for almost a year and then suddenly went into protect mode, so I may have been pushing it near its limits. My shop replaced it under warranty with the M55, which is the next step up for Alpine and was on sale for a little less than what I paid for the M500 last year.

If you can still return the M500, you may want to look into the M55. It would provide additional headroom (>600 wpc on the BC) and more importatnly is stable down to 1 ohm to provide cushion when running a 2ohm set up.

What did yours do?

I have a 10D4 with a M110(so about twice the power) and it is quiet is can be. It is level with my SPR-60Cs set at 25W. My reading tell me everything should be fine, but as you said, it doesn't seem loud enough. What was your bad connection?

I completely tore apart one of these subs, but I did have the gain set almost twice as high.
