Lookig into a cooling fan? need help

um, need details, like are you trying to install it into the amp, or in an amp rack, or whatever else? run from the amp (highly technical, where available) or simply to run when the amp is powered. there are many different options when you want to run a cooling fan, just need to know how you are trying to do it/options......

ok.... i see.... what im wanting is a fan that runs when the truck runs pretty much... and which ever way works the best. i figured id install it inside the amp. i dont see how it would help to install the fan externally?

Amp model? Does it have a fan you are upgrading or replacing?
planet audio bb2400.1(same as sig)... i dont think it has one. i just want to add one. these things runs a little warms

i understand how to plug the wires up to run. just didn understand were to put the fan. because the sides of amp have vents. and i didnt know if could fire

fan into the vent

chances are you wont catch fire to anything. its not getting THAT hot i hope. also best bet would be to put at fan at each end of the amp. just like in a pc you should have an air intake and an exhaust. or you could drill holes in the top of the amp and mount a fan over the holes pulling air out of the amp but that is a nice looking amp not sure if you want to start putting holes in it. however if there is room you could drill the holes and mount the fan inside the amp with the wiring hooked up like blown said and it probably wouldnt look all that bad. if you opt to do a mounted fan i would get a pc fan and if space permits get a 120mm fan for the most air flow at the lowest rpm. lower rpm = less fan noise

edit** i failed at reading comprehension apparently. yes you could push the air into the amp BUT unless you have relatively large venting you probably wont see much of a difference.

edit 2** ok just looked at some gut shots for your amp (posted by you ironically enough) and not only is there no fan but there doesn't appear to be enough room internally to mount one. cant seem to find any pics that show me the vents though so i cant comment any further on that. if you are really serious about this you could mount one or 2 fans to the top (or bottom depending on how you have the amp mounted) and make it look good so that you would be adding to the aesthetic of the amp instead of taking away from it.

hm... yea i love the way the amps looks but i would like to be able to protect it at the same time lol. if i drilled holes in the top would i want he air to blow into the amp

to cool it or how should i.

i would want the air pulling out of the case. not sure how familiar you are with the inner workings of a computer but the fan that sits on top of your processor pulls heated air away and blows it out of the case.

i think this would be the best scenario in your case because if you mount the fan on top with air pulling out it will pull cool air in from the vents and across the components of the amp, while at the same time pulling the warm air off of the components and out of the case.

itsblown -- i would definitely recommend that but depending on where the vents are in relation to his connections, the vent size, and where the amp is mounted this may not be feasible.

bgowdy -- something else to look into is running the amp for a little while without the case to see if you can pinpoint areas where most of the heat is being created and mount your fan or fans accordingly. you dont want to mount directly over the heat source but rather a little to the side. for instance if your heat sources are right at the left and right edges of the amp mount the fans a few inches closer to amp center to promote pulling cool air across the components.

ok... what your saying does make since. i just need to find one with easy install wires. like a positive i could run to turn on and neg i could run to amp but i didnt see any fans that were like that

you need something from here http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=ENE&N=100007998+600035673&QksAutoSuggestion=&ShowDeactivatedMark=False&Configurator=&IsNodeId=1&Subcategory=573&description=&hisInDesc=&Ntk=&CFG=&SpeTabStoreType=&AdvancedSearch=1&srchInDesc=

you will only need to connect 2 of the wires since you dont need to control the speed of the fan. so when you get the fan(s) cut off the connector and start testing wires in sets of 2, although it should just be the red and black wires.
