Context- These were sold by Apex Jr. (not the cheapo Apex brand) as the Apex Jr. Super 8. Velodyne, Audax, Vifa, bunch of guesses, but even Steve Slater (owner of Apex Jr.) doesn't remember. I purchased 10 of these about 15 years ago and built 2 HT subs, each with 4 of these drivers in the box, tuned to 40 Hz. They are impressive woofers, to say the least. One for my brother and one for my sons HT, powered by 500-watt BASH plate amps, and they rattle the room. Both are still in use today. Shortly thereafter, life got complicated: a divorce and a move, a lot of gear went into storage, until I pulled a bunch of it out and closed the storage unit a few years back, damn thing was getting expensive, crazy for an 8x12 gated storage unit. Recently, trying to thin out some of my Diy inventory here, found them sealed up and packed away. Here is an old vid on them in use: If you Google Apex Jr. Super 8, you'll find a lot of people talking about them; they developed a bit of a cult following back in the day. Steve Slater will tell you that if he could have purchased several hundred more, he would have; they just flew out the door once word got around. I got some of the last units he had. Btw, the xmax figure of 4.9 is incorrect, they have since been measured with DATS, and it's right at 8mm (1-way). So I guess long-throw is a stretch (no pun intended), but my post is "un-editable " at this point.
