Is there an actual legal obligation to fulfill a guarantee? Or is it a flimsy term tossed around mostly as a marketing gimmick? Obviously a guarantee SHOULD imply some sort of legal accountability by definition, but is it something that the word represents?

If you said, "100% Guaranteed" without any terms, would it mean anything?

I think if you said "100% Guaranteed or your money back" you would, but with it being vague I'm not so sure?

depends on what your guarantee says. If i say its 100% guaranteed, i could mean its 100% guaranteed to be a piece of sht. Gimmick, but a reputable company will stand behind their product no matter what.

haha well actually it's not a real life situation, it's more of an amusing conversation that arose from someone using the phrase "100% retraction guarantee" to basically mean that "If you aren't completely satisfied, I'll retract my guarantee".

Slowly it built up to the point that the idea of a guarantee was put into question.

So I guess my question is, does something have to be "guaranteed to be XYZ", with conditions, to be valid, as opposed to just being generically "Guaranteed"?

keep getting more vague with your questions...and the applicable law goes that way too. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif If you don't guarantee something, there can be implied guarantees. If you guarantee something, there are loopholes around that guarantee.
