Last sundays fishing...

sorry for the cell phone pics..

the past few weekends , we hit the lake behind my fiances cousins and kept bringing in smaller bass (less than 10 inches). so we went out last sunday expecting the same untill we started pulling up these beasts. 12+ inches and 4+ lbs. buddy who i was fishing with was having problems with his knots or line and kept loosing hooks , so i was the only one bringing them in. i brought in 5 or 6 the smallest being in the first pic , but i didnt manage to get pics of the rest of them.

i felt like i was cheating since we used live 'shiners' on circle hooks (j-hooks that i bent) instead of the soft plastics we usually use , but regaurdless , theyre freaking big fish for the lake. just thought id share.

im so anxious to move to NC and see what the fishing is like up there. i usually go to the local marina and fish from shore. catch shit like , mangrove snapper , lady fish , smaller barracuda and those nasty rock fish so freshwater is a nice change. ALOT less bugs too.

hell yeah..i dont fish alot but my dad is always fishing cause we got a cabin on a lake up here with alot of nice bass and good size trout and a tons a sunnies.

theyre actually quite agressive. i wasnt expecting much of a fight from them , untill i pulled the first one up. my arm was tired , and when i went to take the first pic , the bish started moving and dropped back into the water. probably a 2 minute fight. but we were casting maybe 15-20 feet out with live bait.

and if anyone hasnt tried circle hooks , they are fantastic. lip hooks almost 100% of the time. its just hard to NOT set the hook. id never spend the money on the actual hooks , just bend them myself. ill see if i can find a picture on how to do it...

Nice fish...When I first saw them I was like "WTF? Peacock bass in the U.S.?"

I didn't know there were any in the U.S. I thought they were only in Central and South America..I have seen them catch some 15+lbers on TV down in South America..They supposedly put up a HELL of a fight.

they do get quite big/fat and are aggressive little basturds. when i was young and lived in panama my dad would take my brother and i out fishing around the atlantic side of the canal locks. all we ever caught was peacock bass.

i miss those days. :/

im not sure if theyre native or not but down here , theres so much shit in the water that shouldnt be there.

they do put up a fight , though.

that last pic , that was around 16in and probably around 5lbs , iirc. maybe more.

that was the biggest theyve seen come out of that lake since they lived there. id love to catch a 15lb peacock. now THAT would be fun as shit...
