what are the average rates these days for lasik surgery?

i have an eye appointment today and it is going to cost about $400 to get tested and buy a years supply of contacts.

arent prices down to about $500 per eye now?

why should I spend $400 on a temp fix when i can spend a grand and hopefully never worry again?

Most of the places here in dallas also offer 1 to 2 years no interest or low affordable rates for lasik.

Id look into it.

i have a $375 gift certificate to lens crafters so i kinda need to use it or sell it here;)

money isn't the issue, i have about $1k of disposable cash right now. even if i got one eye done at a time it would be better than wearing these annoying contacts

anyone had the procedure a while ago? how has it worked over time?

alot of these news reports lately about the dangers of lasik have been implying that the skill and experience of the doctor play a big role in how successful the operation is.

so its probably not a good idea to just pick the cheapest place you can find.

oh definately not. my father is looking into it for me. he is a mechanical engineer and designs surgery needles for delicate eye surgeries where laser can't be used and they need to use the old needle/thread method

he has a lot of contacts in the field. the first guy he told me about wants $3500 for both eyes which is a bit much, but when it comes to your eyes....

thats another reason i want one eye done at a time, just in case something goes wrong at least i am not totally blind

i got lasik back in 2002 when i was 18. the doctor told me before he even did any tests that since my eyes wouldn't stop changing/growing until my mid twenties, my sighth would probably get worse in a couple years, and there's no way of telling how much worse.

last time i got my eyes checked was in 2004 i think, and i had 20/20 then, but lately i've noticed i can't read things really far away that some of my friends can. it's nothing serious. it will be like the score of a baseball game on a t.v. from across the bar. my vision is still 10x better than what it was when i wore glasses.

but now that i'm in my mid twenties, i'm going to go get my eyes checked and go back for another op.

just a heads up. during the operation, that is without a doubt, the most uncomfortable i've ever been. speculum in the eye, they cut the sides of my eyelids. ugh it sucked.

i prefer wearing glasses .. give your imagine more style .. but some people look better without glasses ex. girls .. but some girls look hot in glasses and make u wanna jizz all over them ..
