When the alternator cannot provide any more current, it's regulator drops the voltage to protect the diodes. Since the voltage and current stay proportional, dropping the voltage drops the amount of current that can be drawn from the alternator. Once this voltage drops to the battery voltage, then the battery begins discharging as well.</p></blockquote><p></p>
