Kimbo Slice vs. Tank Abbott

Heavy Hands on deck for October 12th

By: Rob “Chi-Chos” Toscano

The Main event at Cage Fury 6 on October 12th promises to be explosive as Kimbo Slice takes on longtime MMA brawler David “Tank” Abbot. Following Kimbo’s victory over Ray Mercer at Cage Fury 5, words were exchanged between Slice and Abbot, prompting Cage Fury Fighting Championship’s President, Felix Martinez, to make an announcement that he would like to have Tank square off with Kimbo at the next event. It seems Martinez will deliver as Tank vs. Kimbo will headline what’s shaping up to be another amazing night of fights at CFFC 6 in October.

David “Tank” Abbot is known for his “Fight anywhere; Fight anytime” attitude and sledgehammer-like right hand. Tank has been a constant figure in MMA, making his first appearance in July of 1995 at UFC 6, and racking up a record of 9 wins & 13 losses over the last 12 years in various MMA promotions. Abbott’s last win was against Wesley “Cabbage” Correira back in May of 2005, and since then has lost his last 3 bouts. Tank’s last fight was in April of this year at Cage Rage in London, and ended via TKO at the hands of Gary Turner at 2:31 of the first round. Along the way Tank has fought such MMA notables such as Vitor Belfort, Maurice Smith, Pedro Rizzo and Frank Mir. Despite coming up short in most of his fights, Tank is always ready to “Put it on the line” and come out swinging.

Kimbo Slice, the ex-street fighter hailing from Miami, Florida has recently made his debut in Mixed Martial Arts at Cage Fury 5, submitting Ray Mercer with a guillotine choke in just one minute and twelve seconds of the very first round. Up to that point, most of Kimbo’s fights took place in unsanctioned, “Underground” bouts in odd locations such as backyards and boat dockyards. However Kimbo ruled these arenas with his heavy hands, aggressive style and iron chin. Kimbo started his MMA training down in Florida under the tutelage of Marcos Avellan at FFA (Freestyle Fighting Academy). Leading up to his fight with Mercer, Kimbo traveled to different camps to tighten up his skills, and was seen training with Randy Couture and Phil Baroni at Xtreme Couture, in Las Vegas, as well as training with Bas Rutten. Kimbo looked impressive in his MMA debut, and far removed from the backyard brawler he once was, using a mix elbows, knees and takedowns to dispatch Ray Mercer in little over a minute.

Cage Fury Fighting Championship 6 “Heavy Hands” is set to take place on October 12th in Atlantic City, NJ with David “Tank” Abbott vs. Kimbo Slice as it’s main event. Also in store for that night is an exciting main card featuring Ricardo Almeida versus David “Superman” Hallman as well as Duke Roofus making his Mixed Martial Arts debut against Derek Panza.

Well, Kimbo obviously has one hell of a chin and can stand up. Tank is the same, just a hell of a lot stronger. If he thinks he can go blow for blow with tank, hes gonna get his head knocked off. Tanks shortcoming is his speed & ground game. If he can keep moving, Kimbo will win.

Ive always been a fan of tank.. but yea, he is getting old.. not meaning he isnt tough, but I think he has his work cut out for him.. Kimbo and him will show a good fight, but Im predictiong Kimbo with the win..

kimbo can take straight hits and hes all jacked up that man is real strong.
I wouldnt underestimate how strong tank really is. I dont think kimbo has ever been punched by someone as strong as tank. If he goes toe to toe with tank, kimbo will get knocked out.

Kimbo however has been training under Bas Rutten (the mans a legend //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/fyi.gif.9f1f679348da7204ce960cfc74bca8e0.gif ) if he can put his ego aside and absorb half of what Bas has to offer, he'll be one hell of a force in MMA. Tank will be a good test for Kimbo.

on sherdog.com forums.. bas said that he's never trained any1 like kimbo....he just keeps wanting more n more!! 1 of the best students bas said hes ever had

I don't know, I've seen a lot of Kimbo's fights, and a lot of Tank's fights. Yeah, Kimbo has the determination and strength that could lead him a win against Tank, but he's just too cocky, and probably underestimates Tank's abilities to seriously throw some mean hits. I think Kimbo won't know what he has gotten himself into, until him and Tank are in the ring. They both are skilled, but Tank should take this one.
