okay, okay. just went out to the car and turned it off. open up you manual (mine is a xxv-01d, but it should be relatively the same manual) to page 47. where is reads "in standby mode: DISPLAY-reversing SETTING" it explains how to turn off the "flashing"...
go to standby mode> hold down the "next/menu" button> menu comes up, go to "display n/p" and switch it from "auto" to "posi"
i can understand how we got confused because the way it is worded in the manual says that the display switches between a "negative and positive" image. well, i probably read right over this because i simply thought the display was flashing white, didn't know it had anything to do with a "postive/negative" image. on top of that, the manual doesn't explain what demonstration mode is, so i just assumed it was in demo mode. good luck.
