Kenwood vs Pioneer...

i would personally go for the pioneer 8600. same exact features as the 9600 just different display, but the 8600 is cheaper. i have had kenwood decks and changers and none of them lasted. my changer nroke twice in less than a year. i also had a kdc 419 or something like that it quit working with my disc inside it so i busted it apart got my cd out and threw it away. never had a problem with pioneer.

Yea, I don't really like the look of the 8600's though. I just think the fold out look of the 960 and 8400 is just sick but that is me. So the 8600 is pretty comparible to the 960? Might have to look into them... Thanks man...

I say spnd the exra $100 on the 960MP...Those 8400 where no all that popular for some reason

Any reason why the 8400 were not popular?? Defects or they just weren't liked. Long as there is no problem I could care less if ppl like it or not... Cause it looks good to me....

Any love for the P8MP?????????

Thanks again all

Jon

Oh..don't get me wrong..I will take a Pioneer 8400 any day..I was just mentioning this in case someone knew something I didn't..I just always had the impression that you either go with the 7500 or 9400 not the 8400. I have no idea where that idea came from but someone said it?? I love all of pioneers stuff..so you cannot go wrong my friend

I bought a P840MP (Premier version of the 8400) the week they were released 3 or so years ago, and to this day it is still going strong. Never had one problem with it. Not nearly the features that the 860/960 offer, but a great deck none-the-less.

Any love for the P8MP?????????
The price you are paying is all for the looks. The features aren't that impressive. Spend a little bit extra and get a ton more functionality IMO.

Ive had a few Sony decks, few Pioneers, and 3 Alpine Decks. And now own my first Kenwood KDC-X969. All the decks were either top or second to the top models. Sony just plain sucked, it had terrible sound and terrible options. Alpine was good, stable, but didnt really like it that much. The Pioneers were great but a little spendy. My kenwood deck is by far the best one Ive owned, for 2 years now.

Well, for what its worth.....here is my opinion.

Premier DEH-P8mp - Nice looks, 6 volt pre out, only a 16 bit d/a converter though.

Pioneer DEH-P8400 - Only 4 volt pre out voltage, double face has had problems, and only one color display.

Premier DEH-P960 - 6 volt pre outs, 24bit converter, nice looks, but again....double face has had problems.

Premier DEH-P860 (what I chose to go with) good looks, 24bit converter, 6 volt pre outs, and multi-color display.

If I had to choose between the P8mp and the 8400 I would choose the p8mp hands down. Better display, better and more reliable face style, and higher pre out voltage. Sadly, neither of these decks have 24bit converters but the P8 is nice deck none the less. Plus, the P8 has a customizeable display. Oh and also the p8 comes with a 2 year warranty as opposed to the 8400's 1 year warranty.
