What is the difference between the Kenwood MP and X(excelon) series?

Is one a better model then the other like pioneer and pioneer premier?

Which is better of the two:

Kenwood KDC-X789

Kenwood KDC-MP628

Yes, warranty and features differ.

A couple of my personnal non- Excelon favorites are the MP4028 and the MP7028.

There is actually 3 levels in the kenwood linup with the Excelons at the top followed by the 4 digit series with the 4028,5028,6028,7028 denotation, then at the bottom is the tri digit series like the 228,328,428,528,628,728 ect..

Again the differences are the features and warranty.

Tri digit series are found at big box stores while the 4 digit and Excelon series are found the smaller more specialized car audio shops.

I know I was comparing the differences between the KDC-MP528 and the KDC-MP5028 and the only discernable differences between them are the higheer voltage preouts on the 5028, and the faceplate looked like it had black accents where as the 528 had silver/metalic styling

I got the 528 to fill in while my Excelon X859 was in the shop getting the dmask face plate fixed under warranty. And next week the 528 is going back to Best Buy.....I dont like it.

I didn't like the 528/5028 either, the 4028 is actually a better deck.

I haven't been able to compare them side-by-side but (says Kenwood) the 25th Anny HU is allegedly better than the KDC-X889 though both are marked as eXcelons. Would that make a 4rth level?

I think the main difference between the x889 and the XXV-01D is (allegedly) upgraded internal components and the bada$$ display on the 01D. I guess you could consider that a fourth level, but since they're only producing the XXV models this year, I don't think you should.
