Kenwood Kenwood KDC-MP928 questions

Now that I have some solid audio speakers and amps I decide to play with my Kenwood Kenwood KDC-MP928 HU. That thing has so many settings I wished I understood some of them. I got it sounding good but was wondering about the following.

I decided to set my amps for through and do the X-over in my HU. I set my front and back comps at HP 80 hz. but doing my sub I only have LP 40 or 60 hz nothing in between. At 60 hz there is a little distortion at high levels and at 40 hz there is no distortion but the bass is a little weak.

also there is a setting under the HZ that can be set -11db or -18db. What is that for?

Should I set the HU for through and do the X-over on the amp?

Thanks

you are right it does not have anything between 40 and 60 but it sure as hell has 40 60 80 100 and i think all the way to 220 on the lopass, why dont you try 80

Ok heres my thought..... I set it at 60Hz and there was some distortion, Thinking I was sending to much music to my subs I lowered it to 40. So now as I understand it only the frequencys 40Hz and below are going to the subs.

I think it would sound better at 50. BUT I cant choose 50? So is there something wrong with my thinking? Why would I want to send everything below 80 when 60 is no good?

Thanks
