Kenwood Head Unit/ Factory Rear Seat Entertainment

Hi! I searched, but did not find anything to answer what I seek.

I just installed a new system in my 2008 Ford F-450 Super Duty. I ordered the truck with the lowest end stereo they had knowing I was going to swap it out.

I got the entire system installed and it works fine. The issue is with the Rear Seat Entertainment (RSE).

When you turn it on, it flickers and flashes, then turns off.

I removed the Kenwood (DDX6019) from the truck and the DVD still did the same thing. When I plugged the factory head unit back in, the DVD began to function.

I have looked over the wiring schematics for the truck and it looks like the only "odd" connection is the Can-Bus.

Does anyone know how to maintain use of the RSE with an after market head unit? I do not need it to play through the stereo. Just want it to play movies and use the head phones.

You didn't mention how your installer hooked up the DDX-6019, i.e. if he used some sort of adapter to your OEM system. The DDX-6019 has the option to run in single zone or dual zone mode. Single zone is 4+1 (four plus sub), dual zone is 3+2 (front plus sub, rear stereo). The option to switch zones is in the audio section under zone control.

I am the installer.

The issue I am having is not audio. It is actually the DVD itself (the factory rear seat one) is not turning on.

Since I posted this I have learned that it has to do with the Can-Bus. The dvd logs onto the internal network and needs to see the factory HU.

I am in communication with the dealership to see if this is something that can be flash changed.

Otherwise, I am mounting the factory unit behind the rear seat with the minimal connections (switched power, power, ground, Can-Bus) and leaving it as a dummy HU. The DVD works that way.
