Kenwood eXcelon X589 vs. X689. Opinions please!

I'll buy a new HU and I first thought about X589, but I saw that X689 is 20~30 dollars more expensive then 589 and got some more options. Does it worth buying the X689?

What's this "D-Mask+ motorized, detachable stealth face with fluorescent display and rotary encoder" about?

It means after you trun it off the comesout and flips over automatically, showing only black there.... And you can detach it too..... well at least thats how my dads is... I dont know if its the same for that one

Don't get the D-Mask... there's a design problem with the D-Mask. After about one to two years of use, the ribbon cable will break. Also, if the 589 is the one I'm thinking of, you may want to save an extra $75 and get the 789 instead to get all the cool features like RDS and stuff.

i have heard that the d-mask had a few pros that come with it....i would rather take the time and take the face-plate off then the D-mask... my .02

589 and 789 are 2005

689 is 2004 i belive

either way great HUs

689 is new for 2005. It uses the x8x designation. Also the 689 is the only model that uses the horrible D-Mask design.
