Yes, plenty of control. Has good sound processing (24 bit Burr Brown DACs) I really cant see an upgrade even if i had the money to buy something else.

the main diff between the two is that the 889 comes with the phatnoise mp3 software, and i believe it has a better DAC. iirc the 789 is the standard DAC, for the 24bit one you need the 889. the mp3 software is kinda cool if you listen to mp3's.

i was a little disappointed with the ergonomics of the kenwood decks, kind of a hassle to use, but they have some cool features.

yeah, thats what i dislike about it too!

this is the reason i might be switchig into gettin a pioneer 860mp...

although i cant realy judge the x889 as i have only seen the KDC-MP828 (which i wasnt greatly fond of, for functionality) which im guessing is more or less similar to the x889.. is it?

the 789 has phatnoise too,the ergonomics of every HU is messed up not just kenwood,every japanese designed HU I have seen in the last 10 years is a cluster fvck of motion,they keep on cramming features into these little boxes and never ever test them out on the US buyers before they go into production and we all end up fustrated and confused,once you get the hang of the Kenwoods they are still easier than the Alpines,but not as easy as the Pio's and not even neer as tough as the Eclipse's(talk about a clusterfvck)

If I could build my own HU it would have a little Excelon,Pio and Alpine rolled into one unit...

The 889 as far as I am concerned is by far has better SQ and cleaner smoother output than any HU I have tried to date,and believe me I have owed alot of HU's mostly Pioneers and Alpines because of the popularity,I never even looked at Kenwood cause I always thought they were junk,well not in 2005 its a whole new ballgame.

Finally in 2006 Pioneer is playing catch up with thier new line up which I saw yesterday and should have the SQ that the 889s have but that has yet to be tested and Alpine is heading IMO into a lower-end market of lesser SQ....
